Event Sustainability Guidelines for

Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Club (BSRC)

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) would like to help BSRC meet the goals of Rotary International’s environmental focus area. One area where small changes can make a big difference is the organization of our events. EWG therefore developed the following guidelines to help event organizers.

  • Event chair/organizer is responsible for implementing environmental guidelines for each event. The chair will communicate with the venue or caterers to minimize the use of plastics and non-recyclable items or offer that Rotary provide compostable tableware and composting services.

  • Purchase compostable plates, cups, napkins, utensils, and trash bags from Eco Montana (Heidi is the contact) - infor@eco-montana.com (406) 551-2665. Rotary receives a discount (only 40% of commercial value) because we are a non-profit organization. Compostable tableware is stored at Glen Lake Rotary Park (ref. Brandon Schreiner), so check existing supplies before ordering.

  • Order composting service from YES composting https://www.yescompost.com/ karl@yescompost.com, (Karl is the contact )  (406) 219-7011(if not provided by the event venue). YES provides 3 types of bins at each station (~40 people/station): 1) composting; 2) recycling; and 3) trash. The bins are delivered before the event and picked up after the event.

  • Use non-plastic, compostable bags as liners for trash bins at each event.

  • Tablecloths - cloth or paper (not plastic), Event will use reusable tablecloths or rent from Montana Linen Supply.
