Presentation by Dr. Erik Adams - What is Platelet Rich Plasma and what is it used for?
The past 20 years has seen a massive leap forward in our ability to treat musculoskeletal problems without surgery. These include osteoarthritis, tendon disorders, ligament damage, and lumbar spine issues. At Bozeman Sports Medicine, we use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for many conditions in which healing is needed, as platelets contain growth factors and are the mechanism by which our bodies heal injury. For disorders such as tendon tears (examples being rotator cuff, lateral hip, tennis elbow), fixing the damage amounts to turning back the clock. We see our patients returning to an active life after repair of the damage. For disorders such as osteoarthritis, PRP slows the progress of the disease and hopefully avoids joint replacement. Dr. Adams will cover how platelets work, what we use them for, and critical items in the performance of PRP injection.
